Sacrificing or Refocusing?

I read this great article somewhere (of course, for the life of me, I can’t find it!) where it had the idea for a blog post to give up something and then document if/how it changed things for your business. I initially thought of doing this, but I thought instead that instead of sacrificing something, refocus myself to certain aspects. Let me explain.

Many entrepreneurs already make many sacrifices with home and family, so why would it be reasonable to ask them to sacrifice even more, just to “see what happens”? To me, that’s not going to happen. At the time this is published, I’ve had my daughter home with me for over a month straight (stupid toddler colds!) so I’ve only got so much left in me at this moment. Instead, refocusing my efforts to specific, actionable areas to make the biggest impact.

  1. Keeping up with my blog posts: as these tend to be great outlets for me and feed some social media content, it’s important to keep up with them. Believe it or not, as much as I write these to help other entrepreneurs, moms, or anyone who happens to read them, they also help me work through thoughts in my head for Avustaa.
  2. Finding the right VA to help me: it’s true – we all need help! Even VA’s need a VA (or many!) sometimes. So I have been searching for one who is the right fit who can help create some space in my business for me so that I can start the New Year off on the right foot!
  3. Earlier starts to my day: I know how important morning routines are, and I CERTAINLY know how much better I function with one. But with having my daughter home so much right now, my whole routine and schedule has been tossed out the window. So, for most of November, my goal will be to get up even earlier so that I can spend the time in my business and not have to give up every single evening and weekend.

It’s so tough, especially in Manitoba winters (now that it’s arrived and is dark at 5pm), to stay energized and focused and not wear yourself out. Efforts and energy will be put towards not only growing my business still in these next six weeks, but also still focusing on taking care of myself. Because I know that it’s important to keep myself (and my head) healthy in order to keep my business thriving.

I don’t believe that you need to give up certain things in order to see success in others. I do believe in those so called “seasons” in which sometimes you need to direct your focus to be a bit more specific in certain times than others, but it’s more of a fluid refocusing – a “give and take”, if you will.

If you feel yourself being pulled in a different direction than you anticipated, just go with it and make the best of it – maybe it’s exactly what you need to end this current year and make some mega headway in the New Year !
